Journalist Philip Kiefer has been making his way into Lake Charles for the Guardian. He sends these dispatches:

I’ve counted about a dozen pickups towing flatboats headed west towards Lake Charles, and bumper to bumper energy trucks from VA, AK, TN, IN, and MS. #HurricaneLaura

Waffle House about 50 miles from Lake Charles appeared to be shut down #HurricaneLaura
