ICU doctor: This second wave is like a war

The number of patients on ventilators in London has doubled since Christmas. This huge increase is putting the NHS under pressure; Dr Rupert Pearse has told Sky News that the overwhelming numbers of patients leave his colleagues exhausted and many are suffering from PTSD.

Staffing is so stretched in hospitals that doctors are relying on medical students to fill in the places of intensive care nurses, despite their lack of ICU training.

He added that the solution to the hospital crisis is within the nation, saying everyone must follow lockdown rules.
