Fire Chief Joseph Pfeifer was the first senior member of the New York City Fire Department on the scene of 9/11.
He took command of the rescue operation in the North Tower – during which he dispatched his brother, Lt Kevin Pfeifer, to help with the rescue. He was never seen alive again.
