Look, the economy is tough nowadays. Everybody is starting to feel the effects of it. Even some of the most famous celebrities are tightening their purses and even getting a side hustle. Zendaya we are lookin’ at you! What’s up guys it’s Emile Ennis Jr. here with Clevver News and that’s exactly what Zendaya is trying to do now. No we aren’t talking about when she joked that she was an Uber driver… and this side hustle is probably not because of the economy – it’s honestly an even better reason than that. In a recent interview with Allure Magazine, Zendaya was talking about her recent HBO show “Euphoria”, her attendance at the 2019 Emmy Awards AND her desire to go to law school! They spoke particularly about pay equality in America and the gender wage gap, which states that women generally make 78% to 82% of what their male co-workers make in any given field. It was a conversation that was inspired by “Fosse/Verdon” actress Michelle Williams, who gave a moving speech when she won the award for “lead actress” this past September. When the interviewer asked what Zendaya what she thought about the wage gap and the speech, Zendaya said that she simply wasn’t sure. Honestly, it was great that she was able to admit that to herself and the magazine interviewer. It shows a lot of courage and self-awareness.
And what’s even better is that Zendaya is definitely interested in learning more.
Zendaya started her career as a child model for Macys, Mervyns, and Old Navy.
At just 14 years old, she got her first major role on “Shake it Up” when she was only 14 years old, where she co-starred alongside Bella Thorne. So, needless to say that Zendaya has been signing contracts her whole life. She just never really knew what was in them.Which is easy to do when you’re a child actor who has parents to do these things for you. But now that Zendaya is 23 and signing onto way more adult roles, she needs to figure out how to read these long, tedious contracts for herself.
Which is exactly why she wants to go to law school. She told the Allure interviewer that she would like to quote “study law or something, not to practice, just to be able to read my own contracts.” As if her resume weren’t packed enough. But of course, Zendaya plans on continuing her career as an actor for a long time. Euphoria was just the beginning of the road for her. After the critically acclaimed success that she had on the show, plenty of doors are sure to open for the young star now. She already has two projects coming out soon. In the first, “Dune” which has already been filmed and is now in post-production, Zendaya will star alongside Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, and Aquaman himself, Jason Mamoa.Zendaya plays the character “Chani” in this sci-fi story that is set to come out sometime in 2020.The other project, which has yet to be filmed, is called “Finest Kind”. We don’t know much about this one yet, except that it takes place in Boston and stars Zendaya alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, and Ansel Elgort, who will apparently play brothers.
Zendaya and Jake both starred in “Spiderman: Far From Home” together earlier this year. But besides continuing her illusterous acting career, Zendaya also has her sight set on something else … a viewfinder. You know, like the part of a camera? So Zendaya, actress, cinematographer, AND lawyer? They’d say it couldn’t be done! But Zendaya doesn’t like that either. So why not do it all? Especially since women account for a very small percentage of cinematographers across the industry. There’s a big push in Hollywood right now to try to get more women interested in the male dominated fields, and with a name like Zendaya to look up to, hopefully plenty more girls and women will want to be in charge of the camera themselves. And I think that’s just what Zendaya wants to do. Especially if she does go ahead and get that law degree. I mean, it starts with reading your own contracts, but who knows where it goes from there. In the future, Zendaya could do a lot to help younger actresses, like she once was, in navigating their contracts.Heck, someone like Zendaya in the music industry could have helped Taylor Swift figure out her contract that signed her music rights away to Big Machine Records. Obviously it’s a lot of expectations to put on someone, but if Zendaya thinks she may want to help disadvantaged people, getting a law degree is certainly a good place to start.
