As you might very well know, the BMW 1M Coupe is a rather odd bird in the automotive world. Prices for this car haven’t really gone down since it was released, for a number of reasons. It is still regarded as one of the best driver’s cars ever made in Bavaria and the limited available models make it very desirable. Thus, pristine models can fetch even more money than when brand new. Throw in some celebrity name associated with it and pricing might even go higher.

Today we’re taking a look at a car with just 5,500 miles on the clock. This Alpine White BMW 1M Coupe is a 2012 model and one of the only 450 units to be built with the steering wheel on the right side, going straight to the UK market. That’s because it was owned by none other than Jay Kay, a man known not just for his music but also for his incredible collection of cars. Apparently, he decided to part ways with this one and the car will be going under the hammer at a Silverstone auction on November 9.

According to the auctioneers, the car should fetch between £42,000-£47,000 ($53,851 – $60,262 or €48,586 – €54,370) but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it sold for even more. Not long ago, a 2011, left-hand drive model with 90 miles on the clock fetched £59,385 (€68,833 – $76,333). Yes, it had less miles on the clock but it didn’t have a star’s name associated with it. We’ll just have to wait and see how much this one gets.

As for the car itself, it is wearing immaculate Alpine White on the outside and has a Black Boston interior that is also virtually flawless. It has been properly maintained, as all of Jay Kay’s cars are and should make its future owner rather happy. As this is one of the best driving cars BMW made recently, we’d expect whoever buys it to actually drive it.

BMW was originally going to release the 1M as a limited production model of 2,700 units. Then due to overwhelming demand, the company lifted the cap and produced a total of 6309 cars until production ended in June 2012. Nevertheless, production of the 1M Coup stopped in June 2012, with 740 units sold in the US and a further 220 sold in Canada. Total 6309 cars sold worldwide.
