What’s up guys it’s Sussan Mourad here with Clevver News, and when Jay-Z said that he’s not a businessman, he’s a business, man, he wasn’t joking. Forbes has reported that the rapper is the first hip-hop artist EVER to become a billionaire.
He’s also one of the only entertainers ever to make a billion dollars, and he didn’t do it through music alone.
Most of Jay-Z’s massive fortune comes from products that he’s made or invested in. He purchased the Champagne brand, Armand de Brignac, which is now worth a pretty three-hundred ten million dollars.
Another large portion of his wealth comes from investments in stocks like Uber, which both he and his wife Beyonce made pretty early into the company’s history.
You may remember hearing a few weeks back that Beyonce was set to be paid 6 million for performing at an uber event in 2015? So instead, she asked to be paid in uber stocks, which are now worth over 300 million.
And then of course there’s Tidal. Jay-Z purchased the Scandinavian streaming company and really made it his own, housing exclusive music including a lot of his and Beyonce’s music. Tidal today is worth 100 million. I mean these numbers, just blow my mind.
Jay-Z came from very humble beginnings, growing up in the projects of Brooklyn, New York. Now, he owns real estate in New York, as well as across the country, that’s valued at around 50 million dollars.
Imagine owning over 50 million dollars worth of houses, and then imagine owning art even more valuable than that! The Carters collection of rare art values at about 70 million, which is more than some museums.
All this combined with a cognac company, a management company, oh, and his 75 million dollar music catalogue, make Jay Z possibly the most accomplished rapper in history. I mean, with the title of the only hip hop billionaire, we really can’t downplay Jay’s achievements.
And meanwhile, I’m just over here wondering if I have enough change today to justify a coffee from coffee bean…
