It is with heavy hearts that we report rapper Juice Wrld has tragically died at the age of 21 as fellow friends and fans send their deepest condolences.
Hey everyone, it’s Dani Golub here for Clevver News, and we’ve learned that up-and-coming rapper Juice Wrld, AKA Jarad Anthony Higgins, passed away after suffering a seizure in an airport terminal Sunday morning.
The Chicago-based hip-hop star just celebrated his 21st birthday last week, and was flying from California to Chicago’s Midway Airport, when he died in the terminal shortly after he landed.
TMZ reported that paramedics were quick to transport him to a local hospital, but were too late. A spokesperson for the Cook Medical Examiner’s office revealed to E! News that Juice was pronounced dead at 3:14 a.m.
When asked about his death, Chicago police revealed, “Shortly after arriving to Chicago, he suffered what appears to be some type of medical emergency according to people traveling with him. There were no signs of foul play and all individuals aboard the aircraft are cooperating with CPD and have given all of their information. Currently we are awaiting the Cook County medical examiner on the cause and manner of death.”
An autopsy is set to be performed today as his death remains under investigation.
Juice’s record label, which is now Interscope Geffen A&M Records, released a statement saying, “Juice made a profound impact on the world in such a short period of time. He was a gentle soul, whose creativity knew no bounds, an exceptional human being and artist who loved and cared for his fans above everything else. To lose someone so kind and so close to our hearts is devastating. Our thoughts are with Juice’s family and friends, everyone at his label Grade A, and his millions of fans around the world.”
Juice signed a deal with the label back in 2008 and received a hefty $3 million signing bonus. That same year, he released his debut single, “All Girls Are The Same,” which was certified double platinum.
His second single, “Lucid Dreams,” was easily his most successful to date, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart and was certified six times platinum.
You may have also heard him on the collaboration mixtape, Wrld on Drugs, with Future, which also reached No. 2 on the charts.
Juice was just starting to make a name for himself as his most recent single, “Bandit,” featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again, reached No. 10 and was certified gold.
His list of collaborations has grown over the years as well, with artists like Young Thug, Ski Mask the Slump God, Lil Yachty, RM and Suga from BTS and Ellie Goulding.
Many were quick to observe that Juice might’ve even “predicted” his death in a track from his 2018 EP Too Soon…
On his single, “Legends,” he suggested that he wouldn’t live past the age of 21, with lyrics reading, “What’s the 27 club? We ain’t making it past 21 / They tell me I’ma be a legend / I don’t know what title now / ‘Cause all the legends seem to die out / What the f*** is this about?”
And in another cryptic tweet he shared just last week, Juice wrote, “This life is yours do what tf you want do great things and change the world don’t let no one tell you SHIT.. and you’ll be bigger than “juice wrld” will ever be, and he’s going down as a legend – Jarad”
Many celebs were greatly impacted by the tough news and have been taking to social media to pay tribute to the late rapper.
Lil Yachty shared a sweet photo of the two on Instagram, writing, “bye brother, love u dawg.. rip.”
Many, many other celebrities and fans alike, including Kehlani, Fat Joe, Camila Cabello, Chloe X Halle and Zedd all posted in honor of Juice, adding that his memory and his outstanding craft will surely live on for eternity.
The rapper was survived by his mother and his girlfriend, as we’re sure, this is not an easy time for either of them, so at this time, their privacy likely means the world to them.
News like this is never easy to hear or report for that matter, and we’re sending our best wishes and condolences to Juice Wrld’s family. I’m Dani Golub here with Clevver News, and I’ll see you next time.
