LEAKED: The All-New BMW 4 Series Coupe (M440i Coupe)
We’re not surprised that the BMW 4 Series has been leaked two days before its unveil. As it has been the case lately, most of the exciting new BMW models have found their way onto the Interwebs way ahead of their official debut. As a matter of fact, the new 4 Series fully leaked a few months ago, so very few surprises were left in store.
Today, several Instagram account, along with some online media are reporting on the leak. The images are part of an official marketing brochure and feature the top BMW M440i Coupe model. The official debut is scheduled for 12:15PM EST on June 2nd, 2020.
The main controversy point of the forthcoming G22 4 Series will be its massive kidney grille. The M440’s design is emphasized with the help of the special, hexagonal pattern of the kidney grille and the Cerium Grey exterior mirror caps, a variation of the honeycomb mesh seen on the M340i/M340d. The side view reveals a very sleek and beautiful design, worthy of the 4 Series Coupe name. The headlights also flow nicely into the fenders and kidney, for a cohesive look.
In the back, you’re getting an interesting interpretation of the taillights, elongated and with beautiful inside graphics. There is also a very subtle trunk lid which emphasizes the sportiness of the car. Like most new BMWs, the iconic Hofmeister Kink has been reinterpreted, for a more modern look.
TEST DRIVE: 2021 BMW 4 Series Prototype – “The Scalpel”
The flagship model in the new 4 Series range – for the time being at least – is not only fitted with the fundamentally rear-biased but still fully-variable all-wheel-drive system xDrive, it will also be the first petrol BMW to feature a 48V vehicle power supply when it is launched at the end of the year.
As a result, it is considerably heavier than the 430i, the extra weight accounted for by the larger engine, additional drive technology for the front wheels and just over 30 kg of bits and pieces for the 48V system. The B58 3.0 liter engine in the M440i Coupe is expected to produce around 375 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque, similar to M340i. Of course, the U.S. version will lack the OPF, so the sound should be better than the European version.
No official sprint times yet, but we expect a 0 to 62 mph run in low 4 seconds.
The coupe also gave the BMW engineers certain physical advantages to work with, sitting almost six centimeters lower to the road and with a 21-millimeter-lower centre of gravity than the 3 Series Sedan. In order to counteract the extra weight of the additional stiffening elements and maintain optimal 50/50 weight distribution, the BMW 4 Series Coupe brings lightweight thinking to the front-end structure. The bonnet, front wings and doors are made entirely from aluminum, unlike on the 3 Series. And in other areas of the car, multi-phase and higher-strength steels give the body even greater rigidity without increasing weight by any noticeable degree.
The leaked brochure also reveals the color palette. The standard exterior colors are the following:
- Alpine White
- Black Sapphire
- Mineral White
- Bluestone
- Artic Race Blue
- Portimao Blue
- Sunset Orange
- Sonremo Green
- Black Non-Metallic
Of course, if you have the extra cash, BMW Individual can make your 4 Series stand out:
- Brilliant White Metallic
- Dravite Grey
- Frozen Deep Grey
- Frozen Portimao Blue
- Tanzanite Blue
That’s all we have for now, but stay tuned for an exclusive and extensive coverage of the new BMW 4 Series.
