Lizzo is livin’ “Good as Hell” after landing her first ever Billboard Magazine cover, and her reaction is literally everything.
What’s up guys, it’s XXXXX back here on Clevver News, and if you didn’t know, well, now you know that 2019 is officially the year of Lizzo.
This flute-slaying Detroit native has risen to the top of the charts, in just a few short months and has conquered the impossible, in her eyes, and she doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.
And she’s just tacked on one more major accomplishment to her stellar year — Lizzo just landed her first ever Billboard Magazine cover, so pop the champagne and throw confetti because congratulations are definitely in order, and she’s not taking this honor lightly, as she shouldn’t.
Lizzo took to Instagram Thursday where she posted a photo of the cover page, literally freaking out over the news writing, “BILL{muthafuckin}BOARD COVER! I usta think things like this were impossible!”
Fashion magazines were even more imaginable cuz I know I’m a pretty bitch! But this means my MUSIC is a cover star and y’all know how much my music is my baby… I’m so happy thanks @billboard”
She then showcased many high-fashion looks from the cover via Instagram, quoting her own cover story with captions exuding her newfound confidence.
Not only has Lizzo gained an entire fanbase of supporters, but she’s even managed to catch the eye of celebs like models Ashley Graham and Shaun Ross, who both commented on her photos, and even Rihanna, who gave her a standing ovation during her BET Awards performance of “Truth Hurts.”
And speaking of Rihanna, Lizzo is clearly following in the footsteps of some of pop and hip-hop’s biggest names. Earlier this month, she was dubbed as one of five black women to hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, this decade.
Did you hear that? THIS ENTIRE DECADE. Yeah, hi, I’ll take ‘Lizzo taking home Grammys’ for $1000, Mr. Trebek.
And on that note, why not add the fact that she was the first black woman THIS YEAR to reach No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100… Naturally, she celebrated by tweeting her success, adding, “100% BLACK AND NUMBER 1”.
Since we’re feelin’ all sorts of mushy and proud of our girl, I do want to add this little tidbit. Lizzo previously revealed that she thought about quitting music for the longest time due to her lack of self-worth and her music not being heard.
Her success has skyrocketed and has exponentially affected fans in the most positive, uplifting of ways, but she’s crediting one person in particular, who heard her when nobody else seemed to.
She took to Twitter yesterday in the midst of her celebrations to reflect on the late-music legend Prince and the influence he had on her.
She shared an article titled “The 5 Up-And-Coming Artists Prince Wants You To Hear”. Mind you, this article was written back in 2015. 2-0-1-5, guys!!!
Alongside the article, Lizzo wrote, “I think about this article a lot….. Prince co-signed me when no one else would… I remember feeling validated as an artist and finally embraced by my community… this was big, I hope he sees I worked hard to make good on his word.”
OK SOMEONE GRAB ME A TISSUE PLZ. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m having a ‘proud mom’ moment and I don’t even have a child. Lizzo is 100% THAT B, and I look forward to seeing her on the Grammy stage, like SOON.
