It was an uplifting and inspiring night for movies & TV last night so right now, we’re breaking down your winners recap from the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards right here on Clevver News!
What’s up guys, it’s your host Drew Dorsey back here on Clevver News, and although there’s nothing better than some salt-loaded movie theater popcorn, I’m gonna have to say that going home with a coveted golden piece of buttery hardware seriously takes the cake… then again, I wouldn’t actually know, but one can dream.
Last night, MTV celebrated the best of the best movies and TV shows with some major fan-favorites taking home awards, and it’s no surprise that TWO of this year’s most talked about cultural phenomenons AKA Game of Thrones and Avengers: End Game led the nominations with four each, and literally swept the Movie Awards… and that didn’t even include the original cast nominations.
But when it was all said and done, End Game came out on top with three wins, including Josh Brolin as Thanos for Best Villain, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man as Best Hero and Best Movie. Game of Thrones ended up scoring one award for Best Show among many other popular contenders like Schitt’s Creek, Riverdale and The Haunting of Hill House.
Lady Gaga took home the award for best performance in a movie, because DUH, have you seen A Star Is Born? Elizabeth Moss won the golden popcorn award for her performance in The Handmaid’s Tale series, also very well-deserved.
Forever heartthrob Noah Centineo nabbed a few awards for his performance in To All The Boys I Loved Before in the categories of Best Kiss and Breakthrough Performance, and seriously y’all, if there was an award for the best speech, this dude wins. Hands down!
And if you tuned into the enigma of a Netflix craze that was Birdbox and borderline crapped your pants while watching, like myself, well then, it did its job. Sandra Bullock won the MTV Movie Award for Best Frightened Performance.
On a complete opposite note, Schitt’s Creek breakout star Dan Levy took home the award for Best Comedic Performance, and if this show is still on your I’ll-watch-if-I-have-time-to-binge-later list, I’ll just leave this gem right here.
And it’s worth a note to mention that this year’s most Meme-able moment went to last season’s Bachelor Colton Underwood for jumping the fence for the woman he loves, and now my standards for love have been unrealistically heightened, but it’s fine, I’m fine.
And finally, it’s REALLY worth it to give a mention to this year’s Trailblazer Award, given to Jada Pinkett Smith and the Generation Award to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. MTV General Manager Amy Doyle, had the kindest things to say about The Rock, mentioning QUOTE, “Throughout his career, Johnson has proven to be the ultimate badass — an action star with a flair for comedy, one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time and a true family man. He continues to captivate his audience worldwide and we are thrilled to celebrate him with the Generation Award.”
That seems like the perfect note to end on and to turn it over to you guys — what are your thoughts on this year’s MTV Movie & TV Award winners? Were you surprised by any of the outcomes?
