Murder suspect Carlos Medina claims Bishop David O’Connell owed him money: sheriff | New York Post

The suspect in the slaying of Catholic Bishop David O’Connell claimed the LA clergyman owed him money and acted “irrational” around the time of the shocking murder, according to authorities.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna alleged in a Monday press conference that 65-year-old handyman Carlos Medina shot and killed the bishop inside his Hacienda Heights home Saturday.

Medina was arrested by authorities after he originally refused to leave his Torrance home earlier Monday, Luna said. A tipster told authorities that Medina left Los Angeles County after the killing, but a community member contacted the sheriff’s office around 2 a.m. Monday to report Medina was back at the home, leading to the arrest.

The alleged killer’s wife was O’Connell’s housekeeper, and Medina also did housework for the slain bishop at times, Luna said.
