Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos believes that AI has not affected job opportunities in animation and will provide new tools for creators. Amidst growing discussions on AI’s impact on the entertainment industry, sparked by the introduction of OpenAI’s generative text-to-video model, Sora, Sarandos addressed the potential of AI during a July 18th earnings call. He emphasized that AI will enhance storytelling by providing powerful creator tools and that historically, technology and entertainment have collaboratively driven industry growth. Sarandos also argued that animation costs haven’t significantly decreased, but job opportunities have risen. Co-CEO Greg Peters added that AI could further improve Netflix’s recommendation and discovery systems, making it easier for users to find the perfect content.
