2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class receives a major mid-cycle update with 2,700 new or redesigned components, focusing on software, powertrains, and ride comfort rather than styling.
MB:OS & Technology
Introduces MB:OS, Mercedes’ new operating system, integrating infotainment, driver assistance, and vehicle systems.
Features Level 2++ autonomous driving, over-the-air updates, a generative AI-powered MBUX Virtual Assistant, digital key, Lane Change Assist, and Reverse Assist.
New MBUX Superscreen includes a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, 14.4-inch center display, and 12.3-inch passenger screen. Physical steering-wheel buttons return.
Powertrains
S580 4MATIC: New 4.0L twin-turbo M177 Evo V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft, producing 530 hp and 553 lb-ft, reaching 0–60 mph in 3.9 seconds. It improves emissions and efficiency while retaining a traditional V8 sound.
S500 4MATIC: Updated 3.0L inline-six with 442 hp and 443 lb-ft, plus a temporary 472 lb-ft boost, reaching 0–60 mph in about 4.3 seconds.
S580e Plug-in Hybrid: Produces 576 hp, but is the heaviest model and less smooth than the others.
Ride & Design
Improved Airmatic and optional E-Active Body Control use cloud-based road data to adjust suspension before bumps, making this the most comfortable S-Class yet.
Exterior changes are subtle, including a larger grille, new lighting, and redesigned wheels, while the cabin gains a refreshed dashboard and center console.
Verdict
The S500 4MATIC is the best overall choice thanks to its strong performance, improved refinement, lighter handling, and expected lower price. The S580 offers a more exciting V8, while the S580e is the quietest but also the least engaging.
