New ALPINA B3 Sedan G20 will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show
In a few days, one of the most traditional auto shows for ALPINA will start – the Tokyo Motor Show. In Japan, the German automaker will debut the ALPINA B3 Sedan which completes the B3 family after the presentation of the touring at this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show.
No other information was released now by ALPINA, but a few things are clear. Just like the B3 Touring, the ALPINA B3 Sedan will be powered by the S58 3.0 liter TwinTurbo engine. The very same engine is used by the X3 M and X4 M models, and will be under the hood of the future G80 M3 and G82 M4.
While the pure BMW models get more power, the unit found in the ALPINA units is slightly detuned. In the Touring, the S58 has bespoke turbos and cooling helping to deliver 462 horsepower. The maximum power is released between 5,000 and 7,000 rpm while the 700 Nm of torque is released between 3,000 and 4,250 Nm.
Just like the M340i from BMW, the ALPINA B3 Sedan is likely to be offered with two drivetrains – a rear-wheel drive unit and an xDrive model. The ALPINA B3 Touring has an electronically controlled locking differential on the rear axle and an adapted eight-speed automatic transmission developed together with ZF. The top speed of this brand new popping station: more than 300 km / h.
The ALPINA B3 Touring has the Comfort, Comfort +, Sport and Sport + modes, so it’s fair to assume that the sedan will be similar, if not identical.
Of course, the exterior and interior design will get ALPINA-specific bits, to further differentiate from the M340i. ALPINA Classic wheels in different sizes are also likely to be included.
The 2019 Tokyo Motor Show will kick off on October 24th and will go on until November 4th. As always, full information should be released at the beginning of the auto show.
