Pig farmers fear they may have to destroy 80 animals a week

The National Farmers Union have warned that some of its members are facing disaster with as many as 100,000 pigs being slaughtered and incinerated because abbatoirs don’t have the staff to deal with them.

One farmer told Sky News it was the biggest mess that British agriculture had ever faced and the army would have to be called in to help kill the animals.
