2022 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo / Sport Turismo
Starting at: $95,050
Highs Prompt and repeatable acceleration blasts, a wagon with sports-car handling, cargo area and rear seat are larger than the Taycan sedan’s.
Lows Unremarkable range estimates, even pricier than the pricey sedan, many interior screens and few physical controls equal distractions.
Verdict The Taycan Cross Turismo wagon is everything we like about the sedan in a more practical package.

Overview
Think station wagons aren’t cool? The breathtaking take-offs performed by the 2022 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo and Sport Turismo will make you think again. Sure, one ride in a Tesla Model S can have the same effect, but Teslas are cool, wagons are not supposed to be. As the longroof alternatives to the Taycan sedan, the Turismo versions inherit an advanced electrical architecture and innovated two-speed transmission that enables repeated big-wow acceleration. While Porsche’s EV recipe leaves out some traditional ingredients (read: one-pedal driving) and can’t match the range of the rangiest Tesla, the Taycan twins are much more satisfying to drive. Consider that the wagon has a bigger back seat and trunk than the sedan and its added practically might offset its higher asking price. Regardless, the 2022 Taycan Cross Turismo and Sport Turismo are both useful family-hauling tools and great ways to make wagon-haters look like fools. They’re Editors’ Choice winners, too.

What’s New for 2022?
The 2022 Taycan Cross Turismo benefits from a smattering of updates. One of the coolest changes is the ability to park itself without someone behind the wheel, which can be done via smartphone with the new remote-parking feature. Among the improvements to the infotainment system are a better operating system, enhanced voice commands, and Android Auto finally joining Apple CarPlay. Thanks to Porsche’s “Paint to Sample” program, customers can select personal colors, including those from classic ’90s models. The ’22 Taycan Cross Turismo also benefits from better thermal management and charging functions, which Porsche says help reduce charging times. Also joining the lineup is a new 590-hp GTS Sport Turismo model that gets rid of the regular model’s body cladding, adopts the sedan’s lower ride height, and benefits from unique styling bits and chassis tuning.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
4: $92,250
4S: $111,650
GTS Sport Turismo: $134,650
Turbo: $154,850
Turbo S: $188,950

The Cross Turismo lineup aligns with the regular Taycan, except that there’s no rear-wheel-drive model and prices for the wagon are slightly more expensive than the sedan. With that said, we’d recommend the Cross Turismo 4S model, which features a 562-hp powertrain. As with all models, it comes standard with all-wheel drive and an adjustable air suspension. The long-roof Taycan goes on sale this summer and comes with a free three years of Electrify America charging. We’d also recommend taking advantage of the Porsche Experience Center for an extra, albeit worth it, sum.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Naturally, the Taycan Cross Turismo is motivated exclusively by electricity and shares a chassis and other components with its sedan counterpart. However, the wagon is only offered with all-wheel drive. Power is supplied by two electric motors with total outputs ranging between 469 and 750 horses, depending on the trim level. One of the most interesting elements of the Taycan is its two-speed transmission on the rear axle, a first for an EV. In our testing, it helped the Taycan Turbo S rocket to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds, making it one of the quickest cars we’ve ever tested. What’s more, unlike normal EVs, which get slower as their battery charge depletes, the Taycan provides consistent performance. Our first drive of the 469-hp Taycan Cross Turismo 4 showed off its expedient acceleration, agile handling, and reassuring brakes.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life
When we first speculated about the Taycan Cross Turismo, we predicted it would have a driving range that would exceed 300 miles. However, that was before the EPA released its range ratings for the Taycan sedan, which is currently listed as 227 miles with the larger 83.7-kWh battery, which is what every wagon uses. We tested the Turbo S sedan on our 75-mph highway route, as well as the less powerful 4S version, and found that the Porsche EVs were more efficient in the real world than their government ratings suggest. Since the Cross Turismo will share the sedan’s 800-volt architecture, we expect the wagon will have a similar, albeit slightly shorter, all-electric range and the ability to charge its battery from 5 to 80 percent in as little as 22.5 minutes.
