Prime Minister: Captain Sir Tom Moore was 'a beacon of hope for the world'

The Prime Minister has released a video statement following news of the death of Captain Sir Tom Moore.

Boris Johnson called him a “hero in the truest sense of the word”, praising him for raising more than £32m for the NHS and giving others the “chance to thank the extraordinary men and women who have protected us during this pandemic”.

In his honour, the flag has been lowered to half mast at Downing Street.

Captain Tom died in hospital at the age of 100 after testing positive for COVID-19.
