England’s Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty and his deputy Professor Jonathan Van-Tam have been given knighthoods, along with the Chief Medical Officers for Wales Dr Frank Atherton and Scotland, Dr Gregor Smith. Nearly one in five of the honours in the New Year list are for COVID-related service.
Other familiar faces to receive awards include former Prime Minister Tony Blair, Coronation Street star William Roache, Spice Girl Mel B and tennis’ Emma Raducanu.
Two charity fundraisers receiving the British Empire Medal are just 11 and 12-years-old, the youngest honours recipients on record.
