Scooter Braun just shared a message about kindness during all of this Taylor Swift music battle drama and the Swifties are NOT having it.What’s up? It’s Emile Ennis Jr. here with Clevver News and this drama between Taylor Swift, Scooter Braun, and Scott Borchetta just keeps spiraling.Just for a quick recap, when Scooter purchased Big Machine Records from Scott for 300 million dollars, it included the rights to Taylor’s entire music catalog recorded there AKA her first 6 albums. And as we all know, Taylor was NOT happy about this at all. She plans to re-record her masters, but she legally can’t do that until November of 2020. But Taylor is scheduled to perform at the upcoming American Music Awards this Sunday where she’s being honored with the Artist of the Decade award.
Obviously, she wanted to sing a medley of her hits over the last ten years, but last week, Taylor went on social media to say that she can’t perform her old hits at the AMA’s.In a very long IG story, Taylor explained to fans that Scooter and Scott are banning her from singing any of her old music, at the AMA’s AND on an unreleased Netflix documentary. The main point she said is that quote, “Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun have now said that I’m not allowed to perform my old music on television because that would be re-recording my music before I’m allowed to next year.”But Big Machine Label, disagreed with Taylor’s statement. The company released their own statement. And after the statement released by Big Machine, Taylor’s team clapped right back, and then Big Machine clapped back again. And so on and so forth.Yeah, it’s a very complicated situation. There was a lot of back and forth, but according to TMZ Taylor CAN in fact perform her songs at the AMA’s, though we have no idea if she actually will after all this drama.Anyway, back to Scooter who just posted this on Instagram. It’s just a black and white text only pic that says quote, “Kindness is the only response” and his caption says quote, “words to live by” with a smiling emoji. The response on his IG post is positive in the comment section only because he has comments turned off for anyone he doesn’t follow. Which is understandable given all the drama over the past couple weeks. So we took to Twitter to see what people really think. The Swifties are obviously outraged. They are going off on Twitter coming for Scooter for preaching kindness after everything that went down with Taylor. So yeah, it’s clear the Swifties aren’t really buying this sentiment from Scooter. There are some Scooter fans in the comments that agree with his post but really they’re just asking for Justin Bieber’s next album. So it doesn’t seem like these people really have much to say about the whole Taylor debacle anyway. So now there’s only one question, will Taylor be reluctant to perform her old songs at the AMA’s even if she is allowed after all of this?Though it’s been put in writing that she can perform her old hits, she may not even want to because she won’t have time to change her entire set before Sunday.TMZ reported that Taylor may not have enough time to incorporate the old songs in her performance, because such rehearsals take at least a month.
And apparently, Taylor wasn’t rehearsing in L.A., she was at her apartment in London so it seems like she has already finished with rehearsals. At this point, if I had to guess I wouldn’t bet on her playing her old hits. It seems like it may be too complicated at this point. And it’s not JUST about this performance, what about future performances and the Netflix documentary.Swifties are taking to Twitter to ask these very important questions. And another wrote quote, “What about for her Netflix special, no one is saying anything about it??”And we agree, what about everything else?I feel like Taylor is going to have to address it this Sunday at the AMA’s I know I will be watching very closely to see what she has to say.
But I want to know what you guys think about all of this.
Do you think Taylor will perform her old hits at the AMA’s on Sunday? And what do you think of Scooter’s post? Do you think it was hypocritical or genuine?
