Sunday was a momentous day/night for our girl Selena Gomez! She took the American Music Awards stage for the first time since 2017 and opened the show with her latest hits, “Lose you to Love Me” and “Look At Her Now.” However; if you caught the performance you might have been asking yourself… “Selena are you doing okay?”

How’s it going everyone, I’m Erin Robinson here on Clevver News and I think it’s safe to say I was doing exactly what you were doing last night… jamming out to all the AMAs performances and also watching for any and all easter egg statements made by music’s finest!

Now I want to disclaim this right now, I’m a Selenator through and through. I was ecstatic she slayed the red carpet, rocked out onstage and even cried alongside her BFF Taylor Swift’s parents during T-Swift’s acceptance speech!

Yes Selena, we love a supportive BFF, but some people on Twitter were not loving her emotional performance!

A lot of people had questions about Selena’s performance, which if you didn’t catch it or need a quick refresher… here it is!

Okay, so yes I have to admit… her voice was a bit shaky, but it’s an emotional song, it’s a massive night for Selena and there are hundreds of thousands of eyes on her… I can see why nerves maybe got the best of her!

One person tweeted, “Watching Selena Gomez’s AMAs performance like… “

Or this person who tweeted, ‘Are we all just going to pretend that Selena Gomez thing was normal?”

Some supportive fans on the other hand attributed the lackluster performance to her lupus!

This fan tweeted, “I truly believe she was battling a lupus flare up. I think we will look back and actually be impressed she was able to do the performance at all

Well it looks like we now have reasons as to why selena quite literally “sang off key in her chorus.”

According to E! News, “Selena definitely had anxiety and a panic attack before she went out and was putting a lot of pressure on herself.”

Selena is no stranger to sharing personal stories regarding her mental health! She has become a voice in the community and a symbol of strength for so many!

Back in 2016 Selena opened up about her struggles with Lupus and how she discovered she began suffering from the disease in 2015.

Selena said in a statement published by US Weekly, “As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have Lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways. I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of Lupus, can present their own challenges. I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.”

She said so herself, anxiety and panic attacks are side-effects of her Lupus!

Selenators were there to support her with one fan writing, “I love your performance you look so pretty, i have anxiety too and you are a warrior thank you to be a role model to me and others @selenagomez”

Amen to that! Selena you are a warrior and a role model and we thank you for being so open, honest and candid about your struggles!
