The BMW M2 range will soon expand with a new model when the new BMW M2 CS will be joining the M2 Competition. Recently, a test prototype of the CS version was filmed taking a quick run on the Nürburgring circuit.

We have recently reported that the new M2 CS is about to premiere next week. The super-sport M2 model placed above the Competition version proves the commitment of BMW M to further develop its pinnacle compact coupe. As previously reported, the M2 is to remain a puristic option for the die-hard M fans, in the true tradition of the performance division.

The new BMW M2 CS was recently scooped while performing some seriously fast stints on the Nordschleife loop on the Nürburgring track in Germany. The car is expected to feature some lightweight materials and sharpened driving performance through various chassis tweaks and component upgrades. The CS variant will use the same 6-cylinder, inline petrol aggregate installed on the M2 Competition, but the maximum output will be boosted up to a staggering 331 kW / 450 PS (445 hp).

Visually, the new M2 CS will differentiate itself from the M2 Competition thanks to some specific appointments and exterior equipment. The roof will be made entirely out of carbon fiber, while the brake system will make use of optional high-performance carbon ceramic discs. The engine hood will sport bulges to highlight the special personality of the model. A revised rear diffuser, the enlarged trunk spoiler and front spoiler lip are also specific to the M2 CS, as are the new forged alloy wheels with Y-spoke design and a diameter of 19 inches.

The new BMW M2 CS will be offered exclusively with rear traction, as for all the other M2 models. Sourcing the massive power towards the rear axle will be the job of either a 6-speed manual sports transmission or a 7-speed M dual clutch automatic gearbox with Drivelogic.

Given its output, the new M2 CS will probably the 0-100 km/h interval in around 4 seconds. The maximum speed will be electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph), but with the help of the M Driver’s Package and some prior training, the top velocity will reach 280 km/h (174 mph).

No big surprises in the list of available exterior paint colors for the M2 CS. We mention the metallic finishes in Black Sapphire, Misano Blue, Alpine White and Hockenheim Silver. Optional steering wheel covered in Alcantara leather and an all-black Nappa/Alcantara leather upholstery for the cabin are expected to be found on the list of customization choices.

Market launch of the new M2 CS is scheduled for the mid 2020, right in time for 2021 model year. A hardcore, more racing-honed M2 CSL is also possible to follow after.
