Stephen Colbert tweaks VP Harris after Biden praise: ‘Part of the job’ | New York Post

CBS late-night host Stephen Colbert couldn’t resist a jab at Vice President Kamala Harris Wednesday night after she answered a question about her role in the administration by rambling about President Biden’s leadership skills.

While discussing his and Harris’ mutual admiration for HBO’s “Veep,” the reliably liberal “Late Show” host noted how title character Selena Meyer, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, was often frustrated by the “vague duties of the role” and asked Harris to describe how she found being a heartbeat away from the presidency.

“Well, I have the great privilege of serving with Joe Biden, who is the president of the United States,” Harris responded.

“Does he understand what it’s like to be vice president?” Colbert asked, a sarcastic reference to his time as Barack Obama’s No. 2.

“He does, he does,” Harris confirmed, before gushing: “He really is a true partner and he understands that job. … But he’s an extraordinary leader and I wish people could see what I see because there’s only one person who sits behind that Resolute Desk. And the decisions that person has to make are the decisions that nobody else in the country can make. And he’s an extraordinary leader. He really is.”

“That’s an excellent answer and the question was, ‘What’s the job of the vice president?’” Colbert said before smiling and bending in closer to Harris. “And your answer is part of the job, I’m guessing.”
