The Aralkum Desert, created after the collapse of the Aral Sea, is expected to generate as many as 10 to 12 major toxic dust events during the summer of 2026, raising concerns across Central Asia and beyond. Unlike ordinary deserts, the Aralkum was created by human activity, exposing a vast lakebed contaminated with decades of pesticides, industrial pollution, and other toxic residues.
