Spoiler alert, Swifties: The Taylor Swift you probably thought you saw at the 2019 Emmys was actually not Taylor Swift, but a Taylor Swift look-a-like, and she’s officially revealed her identity.
What’s up guys, it’s Sussan Mourad back here on Clevver News, and if you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to take a walk in Taylor Swift’s shoes for a day, well, just take a few notes from senior literature major Eve Coffman, who basically got to live out every Swifty’s dream.
It was just your average Tuesday morning when Eve woke up to a swarm of text messages from friends after she had attended the 2019 Emmy Awards this past Sunday with her mother, who runs the Television Academy Foundation (solid hookup, amiright?!).
This year marked Eve’s first Emmys, and clearly her first time mirroring Taylor Swift as she was very unaware of the repercussions. She rocked a pale pink dress to match her pink-dye-tipped blonde hair. Hmmmm… pink tips, pale gown… do you see where this is going?
But in those short 48 hours since the award show, the Internet was quick to believe that it was actually Taylor who had made a quick stealthy cameo at the award show, and not the UC Santa Cruz college kid who had never attended the Emmys.
Eve opened up about the experience to our sister publication Elle Magazine, saying QUOTE, “I woke up at 6:45, and I had texts from all my high school friends telling me that they saw me on Snapchat, and then they looked it up and found articles from multiple sources about people being like, ‘Is Taylor Swift at the Emmys?’ I don’t know how I missed it. I feel like this happened yesterday, but it was definitely startling.”
After getting blown up left and right, Eve, who actually IS a Taylor Swift fan, actually outed herself online on Tuesday, tweeting a photo of herself, and you can almost guarantee Swifties will work their magic until this gets back around to Taylor and Eve gets, like free concert tickets, or something, and I’m not jealous at all.
She tweeted the photo with the caption writing, “Hi I’m the @taylorswift13 everyone’s seeing at the Emmys lol”.
Naturally, the tweet has garnered over 2,500 likes, soooo Taylor, if you’re Taylurking, I think this one deserves some sweet merch or something. Eve also mentioned that she was still blown away by the whole experience, saying, “It’s super cool to have such an icon of mine, someone I look up to and want to be like be the reason I’m becoming a meme.”
But not only did many fans become suspicious of Taylor’s whereabouts on Sunday night, many news outlets also thought they were being “on top of their game” by reporting that Taylor WAS actually at the Emmys.
Eve appeared in the background behind news host Giuliana Rancic on E!’s Live From The Red Carpet, and some fan accounts actually thought Taylor was walking the carpet. TBH, from afar, the resemblance is uncanny.
Other fans had hilarious reactions about initially thinking Taylor was at the Emmys, but quickly realizing that it actually wasn’t her. One fan wrote, “Me: *thinks Taylor is at the emmys* *starts watching the emmys* *realizes it’s not her* *stops watching the emmys* The end.”
Another fan posted a somber photo of Taylor in front of a TV, writing, “Taylor watching the emmys on her tv and realizing the entire fandom thinks she’s there”.
Oddly enough, just before she left for the award show, she mentioned that she thought to herself, “Wow, I really look like Taylor Swift,” due to Taylor’s pink-dyed hair just before her Lover album release.
In fact, earlier this month, Eve posted a YouTube video of herself performing an original song called “Embers”, and is it just me, or do I see a 16-year-old Taylor Swift playing in front of a tiny audience at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville?
It’s all too weird, yet kinda cool, and for this girl’s sake, I’m hoping Taylor picks up on all this, but right now I gotta hear your thoughts on Eve being mistaken for Taylor.
