The Brutal Murder That Ignited Denmark’s BLM Movement

Phillip Mbuji Johansen was killed with a knee to his neck a few weeks after George Floyd was murdered. The killing by two brothers — one with white power tattoos — took place at night, in the forest on a remote Danish island. It took just two days for police to declare that it had “nothing to do with race.” The case is probably the most racially charged in living memory in Denmark, and has forced many Danes to confront the issue of racism in their country for the first time.
