The government's Coronavirus Act has been "misused by the authorities"

Shadow Health Secretary Jonathan Ashworth has told Trevor Phillips On Sunday that Labour has “huge concerns” about how the government’s Coronavirus Act has been “misused by the authorities”, and that his party will “study the detail” of any proposed changes.

Mr Ashworth said: “There have been huge concerns about the way in which the COVID Act has been misused by the authorities and ridiculous fines have been imposed on people sitting on park benches. Obviously we will want to study the detail.”

He also added that the the increase to National Insurance will not “deliver the health and social care that is needed”.
