The new BMW ALPINA B3 Saloon: Younger, Greater, Stronger
The all new BMW ALPINA B3 Saloon model has been officially introduced at the 46th edition of the Tokyo Motor Show which kicked off today. The high-performance sedan from the Buchloe-based manufacturer comes to complement the already revealed B3 Touring. The new premium mid-class ALPINA B3 high-performance sedan is based on the BMW 3 Series with M Sport Package.
The car sports ALPINA CLASSIC 20” forged wheels, a stainless steel exhaust system with twin tailpipes, as well as the characteristic ALPINA aerodynamic elements, which deliver a forceful and distinctive stance. As an exclusive feature, the new ALPINA B3 can also be customized in the iconic ALPINA Blue metallic and ALPINA Green metallic exterior colors.
The new BMW ALPINA B3 saloon is the most powerful of its kind in history. The car is put into motion by the latest generation of the S58 unit comprising a straight-six architecture and a 3.0-liter displacement. The 6-cylinder powerplant is also equipped with TwinPower Turbo two-stage supercharging and is capable of delivering a peak output of 340 kW / 462 PS (456 hp).
The maximum torque of 700 Nm is available between 3,000 and 4,250 rpm, while the top speed reaches a staggering 303 km/h (no electronic limitation). The distance from standstill to 100 km/h is covered in an impressive time of 3.8 seconds. With the help of the dedicated Launch Control function, the new ALPINA B3 sedan is able to sprint from 0 to 200 km/h in just 13.4 seconds.
The recently unveiled ALPINA B3 makes use of an 8-speed 8HP76 sports automatic gearbox specially developed in cooperation with transmission specialist ZF. The gearbox is also fitted with ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC shift paddels. The rear axle features and electronically controlled limited-slip differential which contributes to enhanced driving dynamics and traction.
Customers of the new B3 saloon will be cherished by a typical ALPINA atmosphere inside the car. The cabin is adorned by the hand-stitched LAVALINA leather upholstery, the ALPINA leather steering wheel, the open-pore wood dashboard trim, embossed ALPINA emblems and the ALPINA lettering on the door sills.
The connectivity and communication technologies aboard the new ALPINA B3 include the typical BMW Live Cockpit Professional comprising the 12.5-inch digital instrument cluster and the 10.5 central infotainment display. Based on the latest BMW iDrive OS 7.0, the digital gauge sports pure ALPINA styling in blue color and a centrally-displayed ALPINA logo.
The new BMW ALPINA B3 saloon will be available to order starting with the first quarter of 2020, with deliveries scheduled to commence by mid next year. As in the case of the Touring version, the saloon ALPINA B3 is available to order only with the BMW-sourced xDrive all-wheel drive chassis.
