The Weeknd DITCHES "Selena" Related Song!

It looks like The Weeknd just “unregistered” his cryptic new single that fans speculated would center around his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, annnnd we have a lotta questions…

What’s up guys, it’s Sussan Mourad back here on Clevver News, and first off, the fact that you can just register and then un-register a song is confusing. I’m not sure who made that rule, but there should be a “no-take-backsies” rule on top of that rule. You know?

Anyway, as you’re probably aware by my rant, last week we reported that The Weeknd registered a new song with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, called “Like Selena” under his real name, Abel as both a writer and performer.

Naturally, everyone thought the song would be about his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez, especially since she just dropped a breakup song about her ex, Justin Bieber just weeks prior.

The Weeknd’s name was added next to the registration list, however, this week, the name and the list are completely gone, which makes things even more interesting.

All last week The Weeknd had been busy teasing new music, posting to Instagram a blurry photo with the caption, “The fall starts tomorrow night.”

He later released a new song called “Heartless” and just four days ago, dropped another new song called “Blinding Lights.”

Although each of the tracks didn’t disappoint, because DUH, when does The Weeknd ever do us wrong, there will unfortunately NOT be a Selena-inspired song… for now, that is.

The two started dating back in 2017 and split up after about 10 months together when a source told E! QUOTE, “It’s been hard for them to come to the realization that this is the direction things were heading, but it’s been hard for months. They have been open and honest about it and where they were going. Distance definitely played a factor.”

Another source revealed that the former couple’s falling out came right after Selena’s medical procedures.

They noted during her kidney transplant, that, “Selena really relied on her friends as opposed to The Weeknd. He just wasn’t really available to drop everything he had going on to be with her full-time. He was supportive and sweet of course, but it was really a journey with her and her friends.”

But speaking of her friends, they reportedly weren’t exactly all that blown away by the singer to begin with.

The source went on to say, “They never really liked him. He’s not a part of the church group and didn’t really mesh with her friends. And at this point, those friends and her faith mean everything to her.”

Ok, so I’m aware this relationship is long over, and everyone and their mother has moved on from it all, but I do have to note that this wouldn’t be the first time The Weeknd has possibly used Selena as the subject in one of his songs…

When he dropped his EP, My Dear Melancholy last March, one of his most emotional singles on the record, “Call Out My Name”, was picked apart by fans because of its cryptic lyrics.

One of the lines reads, “I almost cut a piece of myself for your life / Guess I was just another pit stop / Til you made up your mind/ You just wasted my time.”

Fans were quick to point out that these lyrics directly correlated to Selena’s kidney transplant, and about the time these two called it quits, as well as Selena quickly hanging out with Justin Bieber… again.

So it doesn’t seem THAT shocking that Abel would once again use his past relationship as the focal point in his songs…

But who knows, maybe The Weeknd had a slight change of heart.

Regardless, let’s not continue to get our hopes up about a Selena-inspired banger, but who am I kidding? Of course we still will.

For now, I want to know all your predictions as to why “Like Selena” is no longer registered…Wasn’t feeling the song? He was hoping nobody will notice yet and we did?
