m2 vs 4c

We’ve seen the BMW M2 Competition in all sorts of drag races ever since it came out but we’ve rarely seen it go up against an Alfa Romeo 4C. One of the reasons for that is surely the fact that the 4C is truly a rare car in the first place. Our friend Joe Achilles decided to pit his own BMW M2 Competition against the little Alfa and things were quite interesting, to be honest.

From the get go I should mention that the thing that makes the Alfa so desirable is its incredible low weight. The Italian sports car tips the scale at under 1 ton which is amazing these days. Sure, you do lose some comfort features in the process, but then again, that low weight makes it so desirable by true gearheads. Under the hood there’s a 4-cylinder 1.75-liter engine making 240 HP and only comes with a 7-speed DCT gearbox, which is a disappointment for some.

On the other side of the drag strip we have the BMW M2 Competition, this time in manual guise. As you probably already know, the M2 Competition has 410 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque and, according to Joe, this particular car is stock in terms of power output. On the other hand, the M2 Competition is also almost twice as heavy. Furthermore, the weather conditions didn’t really help out at all.

As you’re about to see it was raining heavily and both cars struggled to put the power down. The races would’ve been closer if the M2 was equipped with a 7-speed DCT gearbox. As that was not the case, Joe’s shifting skill cost him nearly every race. The last one, was won by the M2 thanks to a mix of luck and improved gear shifts. Considering the weather though, I think they got really good results out of their cars.
