New York City Mayor Eric Adams convened a pair of news conferences Wednesday (August 9) to present in stark terms the crisis facing the city as a result of the influx of migrants. He went on to request help from both state and federal authorities.
“We are past our breaking point,” Adams said. “We are facing an unprecedented state of emergency.”
According to Adams, some 100,000 migrants have arrived in New York City and have resulted in $12 billion in
additional city spending.
And while Adams underscored the gravity of the migrants situation in the city, he also sounded a note of embrace.
“We would never just slam the door of opportunity,” he said.
