Rare pictures of black holes and stars taken by NASA

The immense gravity of a supermassive black hole, created by a collapsed star, bends light from objects located behind it. This phenomenon, known as gravitational lensing, provides the sole method for identifying isolated black holes within our galaxy.

NGC 3201is an ancient globular cluster which was discovered in 1826 by James Dunlop. It is a gravitationally bound cluster of stars.

A newly discovered supermassive black hole in the Phoenix galaxy cluster is unique because it doesn't supress star creation at the cluster's center.

The image features Hen 2-427 and the surrounding nebula M1-67 which are located in the constellation Sagitta. Both the nebulas are located about 15,000 light-years away from us.

NGC 7742 is a spiral galaxy which looks like a sunny-side-up egg. A Seyfert 2 active galaxy is powered by a black hole which is located at its core.

RS Puppis: The Hubble Space Telescope has imaged RS Puppis, a Cepheid variable star whose brightness fluctuates almost fivefold over a 40-day cycle.

NGC 1275: Located at the center of the Perseus galaxy cluster, this galaxy is notable for its supermassive central black hole. Analysis of optical, radio, and X-ray data reveals its turbulent activity.
