White House has reached out to allies over new Ukraine funding

The White House has been in touch with allies and partners about continued funding for Ukraine and those conversations will continue, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said on Monday (October 2).

Jean-Pierre reaffirmed the U.S. government’s commitment to helping Ukraine defend itself throughout the war with Russia.

According to the White House spokesperson there is “bipartisanship” on the matter and both Republicans and Democrats in Congress want to see the aid continue.

The U.S. Congress passed a stopgap bill on Saturday (September 30) that extended government funding for more than a month and avoided a government shutdown but didn’t contain any new aid for Ukraine.

U.S. President Joe Biden on Sunday (October 1) pressed congressional Republicans to back a bill to provide more aid to Ukraine, saying “we’re going to get it done.”
