Why is ‘sorry’ the hardest word for politicians?

Cabinet Office Minister Steve Barclay and Labour’s James Murray were repeatedly asked whether they were willing to apologise to the public over the government’s handling of COVID.

Both refused to do so.

They were speaking after a report by MPs said thousands of people died at the beginning of the pandemic due to delays and mistakes by ministers and their scientific advisers.
