2027 BMW 7 Series - interior Exterior and Drive (Spectacular Sedan)

2027 BMW 7 Series / i7

A celebrated jewel in the crown of traditional German luxury sedans, the 7-series skimps on nothing, blending cutting-edge tech with luxury appointments including leather, a choice of woods, and yes, carbon fiber. The aptly-named Executive Lounge package is a hedonist’s delight, combining a cigar lounge-worthy power reclining rear seat, footrest, and console with a 31.3-inch multimedia entertainment screen—now with a built-in camera for video calls—and, if you desire, a Dolby Atmos sound system.

But it’s still a BMW at heart, offering three powertrains from a turbocharged 375-hp inline-six to a 536-hp twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8. An optional M Sport Professional package brings big M brakes, a unique rear diffuser and spoiler, and 21-inch wheels, among other M touches that are sure to put a smile on the face of your chauffeur.

Expert Tip: If you’d prefer a 7-series that whooshes along silently thanks to electric power, you’re in luck. BMW offers the i7, an all-electric 7-series that looks virtually identical to the gas model. Not only is it more environmentally conscious, but we found when we test-drove it that its electric powertrain’s silence and seamless operation does an impressive job of isolating passengers from the outside world’s uncouth disturbances. We review the i7 separately.

What’s New for 2027?

The 7-Series sees a host of updates for 2027, including fresh designs for the front and rear fasciae that embody BMW’s bold Neue Klasse design principles, complete with a massive glowing kidney grille. There’s a larger BMW badge with a matte finish up front, too.

Interior upgrades feature a new 17.9-inch touchscreen mounted directly to the right of the steering wheel that works in cahoots with a new windshield spanning panoramic instrument panel display, a new standard 14.6-inch passenger screen, and touch functionality for the optional 31.3-inch rear passenger theater screen. A Dolby Atmos stereo is now available as well.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2027 BMW 7-series is expected to start around $101.350 and go up to $127.000 depending on the trim and options.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Engines: 375-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six (740i); 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with one electric motor, 483-hp combined (750e); 536-hp twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 (760i)
Transmission: 8-speed automatic
Drivetrains: rear-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive

A 375-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six is standard in the 740i, and it is assisted by a 48-volt hybrid system. Rear-wheel drive is standard with this setup, but all-wheel drive—which BMW calls xDrive—is optional. A plug-in-hybrid 750e xDrive is available and is powered by a 483-hp powertrain consisting of a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and an electric motor.

The 760i xDrive is powered by a 536-hp twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 and comes standard with all-wheel drive; this engine also uses a 48-volt hybrid system. We were able to sample the 760i xDrive and noted its silky operation as well as muscle-car acceleration.

The 7-series comes standard with an air suspension, and it uses a rear-wheel-steering system and adaptive dampers as well. As a result, the car feels more agile than its size would suggest but remains more focused on comfort than athleticism.
0–60-MPH Times

C/D 60-mph Test: 3.5 seconds (760i xDrive)
Claimed 60-mph Time: 4.9 seconds (740i)

In Comparison: In our testing, the BMW 760i xDrive outran its primary competitor, the V-8-powered Mercedes-Benz S580, to 60 mph by 0.4 seconds.
