TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Premieres GR GT & GR GT3
TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) today world premiered two new models―the GR GT and GR GT3―by publicly displaying under-development prototypes for the first time.
Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) introduced the GR GT and GR GT3 by revealing their development prototypes for the first time. Both models are designed to deliver an exceptional driving experience with a focus on three main principles: a low center of gravity, lightweight construction with high rigidity, and advanced aerodynamic performance.
The GR GT is a road-legal flagship sports car developed using motorsport technology, while the GR GT3 is its FIA GT3-spec race car counterpart created for customer racing teams. Both vehicles feature Toyota’s first all-aluminum body frame and a newly developed 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. The GR GT also includes a hybrid system with a single electric motor, producing a target output of over 650 PS and more than 850 Nm of torque.
The cars were developed through close collaboration between Toyota engineers, professional racing drivers, and Chairman Akio Toyoda (Master Driver Morizo), following a driver-focused philosophy that emphasizes communication between the driver and the car.
To achieve a low center of gravity, the engineers positioned heavy components such as the engine and rear transaxle as low as possible and optimized the driving position. Lightweight construction was achieved through the use of an all-aluminum frame, carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), and other advanced materials.
The exterior design was created using a reverse development process, where aerodynamic performance was prioritized before styling. Designers and aerodynamic engineers worked together to maximize cooling and airflow. The interior was also carefully designed to provide excellent visibility, ergonomics, and comfort for both track driving and everyday use.
Overall, the GR GT and GR GT3 represent Toyota’s next generation of high-performance sports cars, combining racing technology, innovative engineering, and driver-focused design.
