Coronavirus UK live: vaccine ‘not likely to come to fruition this year’, says Raab

More than 1,250 British travellers in Bangladesh are to be brought back to the UK after the government chartered a further five repatriation flights amid the coronavirus pandemic, PA reports.

Flights from Dhaka to London will take place between April 29 and May 7 and bring the total number of flights from Bangladesh organised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to nine.

This weekend, a total of 850 British travellers are due to return to the UK from Bangladesh on the first phase of our special chartered flights. I’m pleased we have now announced five additional flights which will enable over 1,000 more Brits to come back home.

Liverpool has a significantly higher death rate from Covid-19 than the rest of the UK, according to an investigation by the Liverpool Echo.

At the time of writing, more than 700 people have died in Merseyside’s hospitals – with many more sadly passing in the community.

The death rate of Covid-19 patients at Liverpool’s main hospital trust is 22%, compared with the UK average of 13%.
