Kylie Jenner is facing major backlash over her skincare line, even though it hasn’t even been released.
What’s up guys? It’s Sinead de Vries here at Clevver News and we have to talk about why Kylie’s latest business venture, Kylie Skin, is already facing heat, despite the fact that it hasn’t even hit the market yet.
In case you missed it, Kylie Jenner announced that she’s branching out from cosmetics and adding skincare must-haves to her already impressively long list of products but, according to social media, one of her new skincare products might actually be very harmful for, well… your SKIN?! The product in question? The Kylie Skin Walnut Face Scrub. Kinda awk because she actuallty swears by it.
The scrub contains walnut powder, which is a controversial exfoliant in the beauty community.
Not just people who have used the questionable powder, but even beuaty gurus and skincare experts say that exfoliating with walnuts in any form it can actually be pretty abrasive on your skin and often do more harm than good.
So obviously people have taken to Twitter to question and air their grievances about the potentially damaging ingredient being the star component in Kylie’s scrub.
Beauty influencer Kathleen Lights tweeted quote, “Kinda shocked Kylie’s scrub is a walnut scrub. That sounds so 2013 right? Lmao I don’t mean it in a bad way but aren’t those types of scrubs too abrasive for the skin? Don’t they cause like tiny scratches? I feel like I don’t see them anymore.”
And she might be onto something because a licensed esthetician chimed in on the convo to share these pics and say quote, “Licensed Esthetician here. You should not be exfoliating everyday!!!!! 1x a week MAX!! And Walnut will cause micro tears in your skin, using it everyday will result in coupe rose skin AKA (broken blood vessles)”
Uh… OUCH.
That’s where it got kinda funny, as twitter often does. One fan hilariously tweeted, “Why buy the walnut scrub when you could go scrape your face against tree bark for the same effect?”
That hurts just to think about. Now, I know tons of you have to be familiar with St. Ives. They were so incredibly popular just a few years ago, but in 2016, they were sued because of the potentially damaging effects of, you guessed it, walnut powder in their products.
Kylie’s scrub is already getting the St. Ives comparison, even though we should note that the judge ruled in favor of St. Ives and their parent company, Unilever, and the case was dismissed.
Obviously that made St. Ives pretty happy since jsut about everybody was poopoo’ing their products, so they wasted no time inserting themselves into this narrative. On Kylie’s post that reads QUOTE “my secret to a fresh face #kylieskin walnut face scrub. May 22,” the brand commented QUOTE “Why wait til may 22?”
Okkkaaay St. Ives we see you.
But let’s put all walnut scrub drama aside for a second and talk about the real problem here.
There is no way that Kylie’s secret to fresh face is just a scrub. We know she is doing a lot for her skin outside of her own products… allegedly.
You know… like laser facials and fillers and expensive treatments… again, allegedly.
Alright now I want to hear from you, would you still try Kylie’s skin care products? Or is the walnut powder drama just too much for you?
