Overview

The largest offering from Mercedes’ Maybach ultra-luxury sub-brand, the GLS600 takes a big, luxury SUV and makes it thoroughly sybaritic. The first step is pulling the third row. With that hindrance gone, second-row occupants get lavish space in which to stretch out, especially when the four-seat cabin is specified, complete with a pair of reclining rear seats that rival those in the most expensive airplane accommodations.

Aside from more-than-ample power, 550 horses here, everything in the Maybach GLS has been turned up to 11 on the lux-o-meter. Beyond the nearly loaded “base” spec, you can choose fancy paint, leather, and trim options to make this rolling luxury condo your own one-off. It’s an SUV that dares you to live your largest life.

Expert Tip: Believe it or not, this GLS has the lowest starting price among current Maybachs. If you absolutely must spend more, check out the double-M versions of the S-class sedan, SL roadster, and EQS SUV.

What’s New for 2026?

Mercedes has added a second, less-expensive version of the Night Series package to the GLS600’s options list. This one includes unique paint choices, dark exterior trim and badging, rose gold headlight elements, and 23-inch seven-spoke wheels. The new pack is a mere $10,000, whereas the full Night Series treatment runs $25,000 and includes special interior touches, such as Manufaktur herringbone natural grain wood trim inlaid between aluminum strips.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Engine: 550-hp twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8
Transmission: 9-speed automatic
Drivetrain: all-wheel drive

The GLS600’s twin-turbocharged V-8 makes 550 horsepower and is assisted by a 48-volt hybrid system that gives a little extra shove off the line. During our test drive, we came away impressed with the 600’s silky-smooth ride quality, confident handling, and surprisingly potent acceleration. An air suspension is standard, and it features a Maybach mode that smooths out driver inputs and all but erases bumps in the road.
