The pandemic was only just taking hold when two chefs noticed the need for meals and food was increasingly – quickly.
So they did what any chef would do – they started cooking.
As Mike Drolet reports on The New Reality, they used their contacts with food suppliers, colleges and hotels to divert over a million dollars’ worth of food away from landfill and to shelters and food banks instead.

A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with murdering and kidnapping Sarah Everard, who went missing in south London last week.
Wayne Couzens, 48, will appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court tomorrow, according to a statement from the Met.
A woman in her 30s who had also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on bail.
She is due to return to a police station in mid-April.

Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave announced that a serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with murdering and kidnapping Sarah Everard, who went missing in south London last week.
Wayne Couzens, 48, will appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday morning, according to a statement from the Met.
Outside New Scotland Yard, Nick Ephgrave paid tribute to Ms Everard's family and friends for their 'fortitude and forbearance' over the last few days of the investigation.

A former aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo described how he spotted her at a lobbying event, “grabbed her in a kind of dance pose” and then had her hired for his office, where he went on to “verbally and mentally abuse” her, she told New York Magazine, recalling how he would critique her outfits and once threatened to “end” her career over her failure to transfer a phone call.
The account is one of 30, New York wrote, from women who spoke “about their experiences with Cuomo, almost all who worked for him commented on the extreme pressure applied by both the governor and his top female aides to dress well and expensively; some were told explicitly by senior staff that they had to wear heels whenever he was around.”

Gov. Andrew Cuomo refused on Friday to heed the calls from leaders within his own Democratic Party that he step down amid spiraling accusations of sexual harassment or misconduct now lodged by seven women — portraying himself as a victim of “cancel culture.”
“People know the difference between playing politics, bowing to cancel culture and the truth. Let the review proceed,” Cuomo told reporters on a hastily scheduled phone briefing.

The UK is the biggest importer in the world of biomass, and last year the fuel powered 6.5% per cent of the National Grid.
But environmentalists are urging the government to take another look at the use of biomass; burning wood contributes to deforestation meaning less carbon dioxide is absorbed. Burning biomass also releases large amounts of pollutants in a similar manner to burning other solid fuels such as coal.
Data shared with Sky News from think tank Ember shows that two UK power stations got just over a billion pounds in subsidies and were excused from paying carbon taxes totalling over £300 million pounds.

The police watchdog has launched an investigation into whether Metropolitan Police officers responded appropriately to an allegation of indecent exposure made against the suspect held over Sarah Everard's disappearance.
In a statement, the IOPC said its investigation will look at the actions of the MPS after police received a report that a man had exposed himself at a fast food restaurant in south London on 28 February - three days before Ms Everard went missing.

The Albany Police Department has been formally notified about the allegation that Gov. Andrew Cuomo groped a female staffer in an incident that may amount to a crime, a source familiar with the matter said Thursday.
Cops haven’t launched an official probe but have “reached out to the victim’s attorney and offered up any other police assistance,” a police spokesman said.

More than 55 Democratic state legislators called Thursday for Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign — and the Assembly speaker said he would hold a meeting later in the day “on potential paths forward.”
The statement from Cuomo’s fellow Democrats cited both the spiraling sexual harassment allegations against him and the cover-up of the total nursing home death toll and said that “he has lost the confidence of the public and the state legislature, rendering him ineffective in this time of most urgent need.”

Sarah Everard's family have paid tribute to their 'wonderful daughter and sister' and urged any witnesses to come forward.
In a statement they described Sarah as 'kind and strong' and urged anyone with any information on the case to come forward.
They said: 'Please come forward and speak to the police if you have any information. No piece of information is too insignificant'.
It has also now emerged the suspect in the case, a serving police officer, had to be taken to hospital for a head injury suffered while in custody.
