Storm Dennis: six severe flood warnings in place across England and Wales – latest news

Highest number of warnings on record in place across the country as authorities warn of risk to life

Flood hit areas could still feel the effects of the heavy rains brought by Storm Dennis after it has passed, experts have warned.

The Environment Agency urged people to remain vigilant and said “significant” river and surface water flooding is expected to continue into next week.

Storm Dennis will continue to bring disruptive weather into early next week, and there are flood warnings in place across much of England.

We urge people to check the flood risk in their area and remain vigilant.

An 80-metre cargo ship which had been abandoned and adrift in the mid-Atlantic for over a year has been swept ashore by Storm Dennis in Ireland.

According to Paschal Sheehy, an editor for Irish broadcaster RTÉ, the ship has run aground near Ballycotton in east Cork.
